About me.
I am Kate Farmer, founder of The Cochrane Clinic. With 22 years of military service under my belt, I’ve had the privilege of working in a wide variety of environments and with people from all walks of life. Before my time in the military, I worked for a national rugby league team. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how physical exertion impacts the body and how pain affects emotional wellbeing.

I hold a Level 5 BTEC in Soft Tissue Therapy and Sports Massage from the Oxford School of Sports Massage and am a member of the nationally renowned Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage. I'm also qualified in Dry Cupping therapy. At The Cochrane Clinic, I work with a diverse range of clients – from athletes looking to prevent or recover from injuries, to manual labourers dealing with job-related physical pain, office workers suffering from desk-bound discomfort, new mums in need of relaxation, and clients recovering from surgery or managing chronic pain.

Whether you’re dealing with acute or chronic pain, looking to prevent injury, or simply in need of some relaxation, I’m here to help you restore balance and live pain-free.

What to expect from your appointment.
1. Pre-appointment Preparation
Hydration - It’s a good idea to drink water before a massage to ensure your muscles are well-hydrated.
Avoid a heavy meal - Try not to eat a large meal right before your massage, as lying down on a full stomach may be uncomfortable.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing, preferably sports shorts and t-shirt, and ensure the area that is likely to be massaged is clean.
2. Health Questionnaire
Before your first session, I will ask you to complete a form outlining your medical history, any injuries and areas of concern.
I will also explain what the session will involve.
I will address any concerns you might have, such as how much clothing to remove, or any worries about pain or discomfort during the massage.
3. Consultation and Assessment
We will discuss what you want to achieve from the session (e.g., relieving muscle tension, reducing stress, or enhancing recovery) and longer term plans.
I will also conduct a physical assessment based on this information, which will include examining the areas of your body that are causing issue.
4. Massage and Post-Massage
I will use a variety of techniques to manipulate muscles, soft tissue, and joints. I will always ask you to provide feedback on the pressure being applied, ensuring it’s at a level you’re comfortable with.
Following the massage, you will be given time to change in privacy.
We will then discuss how any longer term plans can be achieved and you will be given rehabilitation exercises if required.
I will also provide aftercare advice, such as stretches, hydration tips, or information on how to manage any soreness that could occur after the massage.
About My Clinic.

What is soft tissue and sports massage therapy?
The treatment and manipulation of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia to relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall physical function.
It’s designed to treat injuries, tension, and discomfort caused by physical activity, poor posture, or everyday stress. Whether you’re recovering from a sports injury, managing chronic pain, or simply looking to improve your performance, these treatments help release muscle tightness, increase flexibility, and promote faster recovery, leaving you feeling stronger and more relaxed.
